What is it?
- An intensive weeklong programme simulating the
running of a business
- Held year round in all states
- Culminates in a National Championship
- A two-way conduit that enables students to learn from business people
while the business people hone their management skills working with
young people
- Since it began in 1993 ABW has involved more than 30 000 students
- In the year 2000 alone some 10 000 students, 1000 teachers and 1000
business people took part in ABW programmes

Who runs it?
- ABW is a not for profit organisation incorporated
as a public company limited by guarantee
- ABW is responsible to a committee of prominent business people and
representatives from Departments of Education and Universities in each
participating state
How much will it cost?
- There is a licence fee to be paid by each
school
- There is a fee for each student (discounts for groups of more
than 100)
- For this each school receives:
- 4 manuals (administration, simulation, mentor
and student)
- 4 support videos
- 3 simulation disks
- 1 audio tape
- Simulation lecture notes
- Checklist
- Masters of decision sheets and market forecasts

Every
year teams of students represent their schools in week long residential
State ABW Programmes held at a host university.
The
winning team from each state is invited to compete in the National Championships,
which are held at the end of the year.
What
do students need to do?
- Student groups of ten take over an established
computer simulated company and assume the role of the company's employees.
- Students run the business, simulated over two years, in competition
with other student teams
- Each student is assigned a role in marketing, operations, finance,
HR etc
- Each team is supported by both a business and teacher mentor
- Each quarter they need to make up to 54 decisions to determine price,
product, volume, marketing strategy, advertising, quality, production
process, staffing, funding, distribution etc.
- Students must conceive a new product, develop a marketing plan, film
a video commercial, create a trade display and make a presentation of
their results
