 6. The design of the Sydney Olympic torch was inspired by the Opera House and the boomerang. 12,000 torches were used to carry the flame from Greece to Sydney. The Olympic torch was designed to burn rain, hail or shine. It burns with an environmentally friendly flame, producing low levels of smoke and toxins. There are actually 2 flames within each torch to ensure that the torch won't go out. The fuel is 65% butane (cigarette lighter fuel) and 35% propane (LP gas), and is preheated to burn more efficiently.
