8. Vegemite is made from a by-product of brewer's yeast left over from beer brewing, another example of Australians putting leftovers to good use.   In 1928 when Marmite dominated the market. Vegemite wanted to attract Marmite's customers as well. The campaign was unsuccessful until the producer's daughter suggested Vegemite. The unsuccessful name and slogan were:
