CSIRO has developed a process to deposit ultrathin polymeric coatings onto reflective surfaces with thickness changes in a controlled manner and geometry. This results in a colour variation across the coating and in colour changes with viewing angle. These coatings may have application as Optically Variable Devices (OVDs) for the protection against counterfeiting of banknotes, credit cards, other high-security financial transaction documents, and other products.
